Tobania & CM: the health insurance of tomorrow

As a part of her digital transformation, the “Christelijke Mutualiteit” (CM) started the project “Cash Payment Billing” (CPB), the digitalisation of medical certificates, in 2016. The health insurance fund chose Tobania to be their partner.
Being the manager of the healthcare IT-team at CM, Roel De Spiegeleer leads a group of 80 CM- and Tobania employees. Together, they take care of the improvement and maintenance of the digital services. In this duo interview with Thierry Parquet, Business Unit Director at Tobania, he gives us more information about the collaboration and the objectives of Cash Payment Billing. Are you ready for the health care of tomorrow?

Ambitious project

CM and Tobania became partners in 2012 and have been optimizing the business processes of the health insurance fund ever since. The CPB is an ambitious project, which needed to be translated in an action plan. Thirty IT experts from Tobania are part of the team of Roel De Spiegeleer. “Each of them has a different background,” he says. “They work complementary with our own employees – in an agile context.”

With Cash Payment Billing, the CM anticipates digital challenges in healthcare. Thierry Parquet: “Together we think about how CM can optimally prepare for technological innovations. We implement new solutions and we all manage the applications independently - as ‘mini services’. Doing so, the CM can keep a close eye on updates and online services. "

Only digital medical certificates

The Cash Payment Billing project has a clear goal: the CM aspires further digitalisation of its services thus making them more accessible. "We realize that our applications needed to be updated," explains Roel De Spiegeleer. “Today, everyone wants to go fast - also in our world.”

“For example, it has become a must to ensure that repayments are made smoothly and transparently,” he continues. “Consequently, it’s crucial to implement and monitor them in real time. In collaboration with Tobania, we therefore developed the digital eAttest, which doctors deliver directly to the CM. Patients no longer have to send attests to us: their consultations are automatically refunded.”
