Life as … a Business Support Officer – Emilie Michaux

#TobaniaStories

The majority of our Tobania world (called “the galaxy” according to our Tobians) is populated by our consultants. Each with their own expertise strapped to their backpacks, they head out to our client’s workplace to deliver targeted projects. Perhaps at yours as well? Well, time to get to know them personally! Featured in this edition: Emilie Michaux, Business Support Officer.

“As a Business Support Officer, I am part of the first-line communication with customers. I welcome them and answer their most common questions, for example about their accounts, bank cards and digital tools. If their question turns out to be more complex or concerns another department, I pass them on to my colleagues.”

Emilie Michaux

Can you briefly introduce yourself, Emilie?

Hello, my name is Emilie. I am almost 28 years old and I am originally from Namur. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and I have been working for Tobania for almost 3 years now. For my first assignment, I worked for two years for a client in the banking sector. Today, I am likewise employed by a customer in the same domain.

“Our basic training is provided; however, the most important learning happens on the job.”

What makes working as a Business Support Officer so unique?

The work I do is unique as we are in direct contact with our client. We must be very empathic and clear, and have the ability to learn. Our basic training is provided; however, the most important learning happens on the job.

How would your colleagues describe you?

Dynamic and always in a good mood, I brighten up their days with little songs that get into their heads!

Who inspires you?

I would say that the person who inspires me the most is Steve Jobs, as he started from nothing and ended up at the very top.

What is your go-to productivity trick?

I don’t really have any. I just give it my best shot while helping the client as much as I possibly can.

How can you stand out as a Business Support Officer?

I would say by giving it your all!

What did your career path look like? When did you join Tobania?

I started working as a Junior Salesperson at an IT consultancy company in October 2018, which didn’t suit me. For example, I was regularly asked to take on a recruiter role and I didn’t feel like it. So, I then joined Tobania in September 2019 for my assignment with my first client. In August 2021, I moved on to join a customer in the same sector in September 2021. Here, I am not only thriving in the role itself, but also as a Flying Coach and Tobania SPOC.

If you could go back in time, what would you say to yourself at the beginning of your career?

That I wouldn’t close the doors so much to the banking sector as it is ultimately the one that suits me best.

What gives you a professional high?

I would say that it is my will to evolve and my ability to question myself when necessary.

“I give the best of myself, whether in calls or in a coaching, so that everyone evolves in the best possible conditions.”

Do you have the ambition to be a mentor for others?

Yes and no. I give the best of myself, whether in calls or in a coaching, so that everyone evolves in the best possible conditions.

What skill have you developed during your career that has been worth all the effort?

The way I give feedback to my managers and colleagues. It also helped me on a personal level.

What does your desired future look like?

I would say that I would stick around at my current client as this company has really allowed me to develop professionally.

Why should a fellow Business Support Officer come work at Tobania?

I have only worked at Tobania as a Business Support Officer, so unfortunately, I cannot provide a point of comparison. However, I would definitely say that Tobania believes in its employees, provides them with opportunities for development and, above all, is one of the rare companies to employ young profiles with no real experience.
