Business Support Officers in the Spotlight

#TobaniaStories   |   10 07 2023

Can you list anything more fun than putting your own in-house talent in the spotlight? Well, we certainly couldn’t. It is only by engaging with our Tobians, asking about their passion and learning opportunities, that we can truly discover their real stories. So, let’s not waste any time and jump right in! Featured in this edition of our “In the Spotlight” column: our Business Support Officers Ayse Asig, Laurine Gilot, Thomas Desmet and Sureya Uslu.

Ayse Asig

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is that there are always learning opportunities. Moreover, there’s also a great variability in projects.

Have you learned a lot?

Yes, I have been working at Tobania for almost two years now and I can definitely state that I have learnt a lot on my project. I started in the home loan service at our customer in the banking sector, but I have also had the opportunity to learn about other services, which has allowed me to expand my professional knowledge within the financial sector.

Why should others also come and work as a Business Support Officer?

I recommend Tobania to others mainly because my colleagues really listen to my ideas and to how I feel, so there’s a positive atmosphere amongst co-workers.

“I had the opportunity to learn about other services that have allowed me to expand my professional knowledge.”

Laurine Gilot

What is the best thing about your job?

For me, the best bits about work are the many colleagues, as well as the HR BP who you can turn to with all your questions.

Have you learned a lot?

My job is completely different from what I studied (Communications), but it definitely suits me! I now know a lot about administration and collective debt settlements, but I have also been able to develop other skills: setting up procedures, dealing with difficult agents or lawyers and improving my French.

Why should others also come and work as a Business Support Officer?

This is my first real job and for me there was just about the right amount of guidance, not too much but not too less either. You can also learn a lot here! After ten hours of 1-on-1 French lessons, I felt that communicating with customers suddenly improved a lot! And if you have time, you can also attend a LinkedIn Learning course. I am very flexible, so I still have plenty of time for hobbies and so on. Another aspect I like is that you can make a lot of connections at the customers, as well as at the Open Bars.

“This is my first real job and for me there was just enough guidance.”

Thomas Desmet

What is the best thing about your job?

I cannot describe the best thing about my job in one sentence, as I believe it also depends on the customer you work for. In our Servicing Connect WEP department at one of the biggest banks in Belgium, there are several great aspects such as the job content (varied and you really feel appreciated, especially internally), the nice team (small team of about 10 people) and the flexibility they provide you with, something that has increased my passion immensely since last year. In addition, this is also more or less a 9-5 job and that suits me, being easier for me to plan things.

Have you learned a lot?

It is unreal what I learnt in such a short space of time. I had no familiarity with the banking world, so I had to pretty much start from scratch. Having worked in tourism for 15 years, this presented some challenges. It wasn’t easy, but I’m glad I took the plunge and stuck with it. I learnt a lot about the banking world, something that will come in handy in my private life. And the change was welcome! So, not only for graduates, but also for people who have been around for a few years like me, this is a highly recommended job.

Why should others also come and work as a Business Support Officer?

It is actually, for me at least, the ideal job to join a specific company. Thanks to my job, I now have a very good understanding of what my bank actually does and what it stands for. It is also the ideal stepping stone to continue growing at your customer if you wish or to gain relevant experience that you can then use as a basis for your next project.
